“Lift Ev’ry Voice & Sing” – often referred to as the “Black National Anthem” was written in Jacksonville, FL by James Weldon Johnson. It was first performed by a choir of Jacksonville children on February 12, 1900 in honor of Abraham Lincoln's birthday.
“It is an absolute honor to keep the history of this performance alive through our organization. The legacy of not only James Weldon Johnson's words, but also the words of Dr. King are a true inspiration," said Darren Dailey, President and Artistic Director, Jacksonville Children's Chorus.
