Monroe County firefighters save girl trapped in Florida Keys house fire (miamiherald.com) — Key West and Monroe County firefighters rescued a 12-year-old girl trapped on the third floor of a burning townhouse on Stock Island Monday morning. She was taken first to Lower Keys Medical Center in Key West, then to a Miami-area hospital, and is in stable condition while state fire investigators work to determine what sparked the blaze.
   

2. Key West's Williams Hall launches youth theater program (keysweekly.com) — Key West families now have a new youth theater option at Williams Hall, where middle and high schoolers can study acting, improv, and stage tech with local theater professionals. The six-week fall semester starts Oct. 5 at 729 Fleming St., with evening classes, $225 tuition, and financial assistance available, aiming to build skills, confidence, and the next generation of local theater artists.

For Key West residents, it's a reminder that the city reported the first modern locally acquired dengue cases in the continental U.S. outside Texas, underscoring the ongoing mosquito-borne disease risk in warm, wet conditions.
   

5. Keys History & Discovery Center's fall lecture series to explore food and folklore (keysweekly.com) — Florida Keys History & Discovery Center is bringing back its fall lecture series, with talks on local chefs, South Florida ghost stories, Revolutionary War history, and a December program on the Florida sponge war between Key West and Gulf towns.
