SOUTH LAKELAND, FL. (June 22, 2026) &ndash;<a href="https://www.d1sportstraining.com/" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank">D1 Training</a>, a leading fitness enrichment concept utilizing the five core tenets of athletic-based training, has officially opened the doors of its newest location in South Lakeland. Located at 4740 S Florida Ave, the new group fitness facility employs a sports-science backed training regimen led by certified trainers to help people of all ages achieve their sport and fitness goals and will be celebrating their grand opening at a new location in South Lakeland at 4740 S Florida Ave on June 27, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. 
To celebrate its launch, D1 Training South Lakeland will be hosting a grand opening event on Saturday, June 27 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. South Lakeland residents and neighbors are invited to tour the facility, meet the coaching staff, and enjoy an afternoon of music, food, competitions, and raffle giveaways. The celebration will also feature an official ribbon cutting ceremony with the Lakeland Chamber of Commerce will take place at 4 p.m. on Friday, June 26th. 
D1 Training South Lakeland is locally owned and operated by Jay Powers, who will join a roster of impressive existing franchisees, including former professional and collegiate athletes. Additional D1 partners include NBA star Chris Paul and Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow.
Powers, a decorated 26-year Army veteran, retired in 2022 as a Green Beret colonel leading in the Joint Special Operations community. Following his military career, he continued his passion for developing high-performing individuals and teams through consulting, coaching, teaching, and speaking on leadership. He went on to serve as Chief Operating Officer for Tampa Bay Wave, teach leadership through the University of South Florida Office of Corporate Training and Professional Education, and coach the Plant High School wrestling team. 
Throughout his career, Powers has been driven by the belief that organizations excel when their people are empowered to reach their full potential. Opening a D1 Training in South Lakeland was a natural next step for him. Inspired by the elite performance training, discipline, and mentorship that shaped his military career, Powers is committed to leading a team that creates a space where athletes of all ages can build confidence, develop character, and achieve their highest potential both on and off the field. 
&ldquo;Throughout my military career, I saw firsthand the impact that performance training, strong mentorship, and a supportive team environment can have on athletic development and personal growth,&rdquo; said Powers. &ldquo;Bringing a D1 Training to South Lakeland creates an opportunity to build that same culture for athletes in our community.&rdquo;
D1 Training offers four age-based programs including Rookie (ages 7-11), Developmental (ages 12-14), Prep (ages 15-18) and D1 Adult. Each fitness program is based on the five athletic-based tenets: dynamic warm-up, performance, strength program, core and conditioning, and cool down. Outside of group workouts, D1 Training offers group, semi-private, and one-on-one training with world-class coaches. The goal is simple: to continue to train athletes who are dedicated to their sport or fitness goals, regardless of age, or athletic background.
