Iraq moves to lower 'age of consent' for girls to 9 years old

Iraq is poised to slash the legal age of consent from 18 to to nine, allowing men to marry young children. The proposed legal change – proposed by ultra-conservative Shia Muslim parties – also deprives women of rights to divorce, child custody and inheritance.

Qatar moves to expel Hamas leaders from Doha

Less than a week since the presumptive election of Donald Trump as America's 47th president and its impact is being felt across the Middle East. Qatar, which has hosted Hamas' leaders for years is now moved to expel them, allegedly after a request from the White House, although the Qataris seemed to pour cold water on this.

Doha nixes further Israel-Hamas mediation, citing lack of seriousness on both sides

In addition to expelling Hamas' leadership from Doha, Qatar also announced it would play no further part in the ceasefire-for-hostages negotiations between Israel and Hamas. It framed the decision as reversible, saying it would reconsider if the parties demonstrate willingness to re-engage.

U.S., U.K. planes attack Houthi positions in Yemen

The United States and Britain launched raids on the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, the Amran governorate, and other areas, Al Masirah TV, the main television news outlet run by the Houthi movement, reported on Sunday.

1) It could be a mistake to think that these issues don't have potential impact on the U.S. as well as other nations in Europe or around the world. On MHProNews, a related international news item with domestic U.S., affordable housing, and manufactured home industry ties reported this morning how Iranian oil sales were handled by the Biden-Harris regime. That is in Part II of that report. The annoucement by Steve Madden that they are moving manufacturing away from Communist China back to the U.S. is Part I in that report with analysis.

2) Some tweets shed light on the headline topic.

Some are exagerating this topic of lowering the age of consent to 9, by making it sound like this is already law in Iraq. It is a pending bill, so being considered.

That said, there are segments of Muslim belief that accepts this notion, while others do not.

TacticalEdge posted on X the following.

Deputy Prime Minister of Sweden, Ebba Busch:

"Islam needs to adapt to Swedish values. Muslims who do not integrate should leave the country!

Honor killings, clan structures, beheadings, the stoning of women, and Sharia law do not belong here!"

As a disclosure, my wife is from Iran and understands these issues first hand. We both voted for Trump-Vance and MAGA Republicans, as previously reported, because we understand from sources on the ground just how difficult life can be for the Iranian (Persian) people, and in some ways, especially for women. The X-post above about societies where women have limited rights is not far from the mark. But before the first Trump Administration, the Obama-Biden (D) administration also took stances that benefited the extreme Iranian regime. So, this isn't just a Biden-Harris era problem. Nor is this a slam on over a billion Muslims around the world. It is an evidence-based reality that illustrates that all religions, and the branches of this or that faith, are clearly not the same. It would be hard to find a significant branch of Christianity that would approve of a similar move to allow 9 year old (or younger) girls to have relations with a man.

But to be even more precise, Iraq is seen by some there as becoming a client state of Iran. That may never had occurred if the Bush-Cheney Administration hadn't invaded Iraq under the false pretext of weapons of mass destruction that were never found. There were Democratic leaders and left-leaning media voices who were among those who said that the world was drifting toward World War III under Biden-Harris (D). Americans, regardless of how they voted, should be thankful that Trump-Vance and MAGA Republicans won a broad mandate, because they could be shifting the U.S. into a more peaceful, less violent, less costly world as a result. A post that shows a left-leaning media personality caught in a hot mic moment can't be posted because she cursed in a way not permitted by Patch community guidelines. That said, an decent Google search or search on Twitter will turn it up.

Big changes in national and international affairs take time. But there are already good reasons to think that the mandate given to Trump and the MAGA movement are bearing good fruit. Further, international outrage over the proposal in Iraq to move the age of consent to 9 might be stymied by the attention.
