Find Cheap Gas for Labor Day Weekend

The cost of a regular gallon of gasoline is down by 23.4 cents from last month's average in the Tampa Bay area.

Tampa Bay area residents hoping to fill up and hit the road for the long Labor Day weekend are going to be in for a treat at the pump.

According to the website GasBuddy.com, prices in the Tampa Bay area have fallen just in time for the holiday. The average price for a regular gallon of gasoline was down to about $2.168 in Tampa Bay Thursday afternoon. That price is down 5.7 cents from last week’s average, 23.4 cents from last month’s average and $1.10 from last year’s average.

Gas prices throughout the state are also down, but motorists might find fuel costs more in some parts of Florida than others. The average price for a gallon of regular was $2.276 in Florida on Thursday afternoon. That’s down 22.5 cents from last month’s average, GasBuddy noted.

“After Labor Day we normally see a drop in gasoline demand as we head out of the busy summer driving season,” AAA spokesman Josh Carrasco said. “A decline in demand, refineries switching to winter-blend fuels and falling oil prices should cause a continued drop in price of gas. If there are no major supply disruptions, we could see some stations in the southeast selling $2 a gallon gas this fall.”
