Largo Hospital Patient Dies After Fighting with Cops, Staff: Police

BREAKING: The incident occurred at the facility on Indian Rocks Road. One officer is hospitalized.

LARGO, FL – A patient at the Largo Medical Center Indian Rocks campus died today after allegedly battering hospital staff and police officers and suffering a cardiac arrest, according to law enforcement.

The Largo Police Department responded at 4:07 p.m. to the facility at 2025 Indian Rocks Road to a report of a patient "out of control" and battering staff members, the department said. Back-up officers were summoned, police said, as the subject reportedly began "violently fighting the officers."

The individual was subsequently restrained, but went into cardiac arrest, police said. Despite efforts by medical staff, the person passed away and was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said.

The patient's name was not released due to the ongoing investigation and notification of next of kin, the agency said.

Largo police said one officer was admitted to the hospital, but did not disclose the nature or severity of the injuries.
