The highway patrol released a photo showing a portion of a front grill piece from the vehicle, believed to be a Dodge, involved in the April 17 accident.

In a crash so gruesome even veteran first responders said they were shocked, at 3:30 a.m. April 17, the highway patrol responded to a crash scene in which a 49-year-old woman was struck and killed while walking along U.S. 301 south of Desrosier Road.

Troopers said the Dodge was headed north on U.S. 301 when it drove off the road onto the east shoulder and struck a traffic sign. The driver regained control long enough to momentarily steer the vehicle back onto U.S. 301, but overcorrected and swerved onto the shoulder a second time, striking the woman who was walking along the grass shoulder.

Troopers said the driver appeared oblivious to the presence of emergency vehicles with flashing lights and traffic barriers marking off the accident scene. Ignoring commands by troopers to stop, the driver drove through the accident scene, running over the severed legs and striking two sheriff's deputies. The driver then drove on without slowing down.

Troopers said they pursued the driver, Andrew Thomas Krummen, 23, of Dade City, for about 10 minutes before the pickup truck's tired were blown out by a "stop stick" troopers placed in the road.
