7 FL Beaches Among 'Deadliest’ In U.S.: List

FLORIDA — The Sunshine State dominated a list of the “America’s Deadliest Beaches,” according to Travel Lens.

To compile the list of “deadliest beaches” in the United States, the travel blog looked at various factors, including the number of surf zone fatalities, shark attacks and hurricanes.

Each beach considered for the list was assigned a danger score with the highest number being 10.

Seven Florida beaches cracked the top 10 with New Smyrna Beach taking the No. 1 spot.

  • No. 1 - New Smyrna Beach, 8.14 danger score
  • No. 2 - Cocoa Beach, 7.57 danger score
  • No. 3 - Ormond Beach, 7.48 danger score
  • No. 4 - Panama City Beach, 7.16 danger score
  • No. 6 - Melbourne Beach, 6.35 danger score
  • No. 7 - Jacksonville Beach, 6.02 danger score
  • No. 10 - Fort Lauderdale, 5.37 danger score

New Smyrna Beach has had 32 shark attacks since 2010, more than any other beach considered, the blog said.

Meanwhile, Panama City Beach is the most dangerous for surfers with 24 surf zone fatalities since 2010, according to Travel Lens.
