Crews repair water main break in Edgewater as targeted boil water order remains in effect (wsvn.com) — A 12-inch water main break in Miami's Edgewater neighborhood left streets flooded and water service disrupted Thursday, and a targeted precautionary boil water order is still in effect. Miami-Dade Water and Sewer crews say a private contractor ruptured the line near Northeast 23rd Street and Fourth Avenue, and affected residents are being notified while repairs and cleanup continue.
2. Downtown Neighbors Alliance says Miami retaliated after president criticized city leadership in legal letter (cbsnews.com) — Miami's Downtown Neighbors Alliance claims city officials are retaliating against the group for its president's outspoken criticism of city leadership, outlining alleged discrimination in a cease-and-desist letter to the city manager. The group cites canceled town halls and last-minute security changes at events as part of a troubling pattern and is giving Miami a few days to respond before considering further legal action.
3. Miami police ask for public's health in identifying hit-and-run driver that killed man riding scooter (cbsnews.com) — Miami police are asking residents for help identifying the driver in a deadly hit-and-run that killed e-scooter rider Scheber Elias near Overtown early Tuesday. Investigators say the suspect was in a dark-colored 2020–2025 Toyota Corolla with likely windshield and front passenger-side damage. If you've seen a similar vehicle, you're urged to contact Miami police or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers.
4. Miami Carnival brings Caribbean pageantry, cultural celebration to Central Broward Park (wsvn.com) — Miami residents can head just up the road this weekend as Miami Broward Carnival takes over Central Broward Park with soca music, elaborate costumes, and a huge Caribbean food spread. Events run Saturday's J'Ouvert through Sunday's big parade and fete, with tickets starting at $70 and amenities like makeup, bags, and even an air‑conditioned truck on the road.
5. DeSantis cancels execution of Death Row inmate from Miami amid dementia concerns (miamiherald.com) — A Death Row inmate from Miami-Dade, William Thompson, has had his execution canceled after Gov. Ron DeSantis withdrew the death warrant amid questions about Thompson's dementia and competency. The case stems from a notorious 1976 torture-murder linked to North Miami Beach, and advocates say executing a gravely ill, cognitively impaired prisoner would violate constitutional protections.
