Kite Surfer, 67, Bit By Shark In FL Keys: Report

A 67-year-old kite surfer was bit in the leg by a shark in Key West, reports said.

KEY WEST, FL — A 67-year-old kite surfer was bitten in the leg by a shark Saturday off Key West, according to multiple reports.

Kevin Carlton Scott, a Key West resident, was bit just before 2 p.m. Police and fire rescue staff responded to Garrison Bight Marina, where paramedics applied a tourniquet to his leg, according to Fox News.

He was initially brought to Lower Keys Medical Center by Key West Emergency Medical Services, the Key West Citizen and Free Press said.

Scott was later airlifted to the mainland for treatment at Jackson South Medical Center in Kendall, reports said.

His wife said that her husband was kite boarding about six miles off Blue Fish Channel, the Miami Herald reported. She was on their boat at the time of the shark bite and heard his screams.

This was the fifth major shark bite in waters surrounding the Florida Keys, reports said.
