Lockdown Lifted on Frances S. Tucker Elementary School
Police searched for robbery suspect near Coconut Grove school

The Frances S. Tucker Elementary School in Coconut Grove was placed on lockdown for about two hours on Thursday afternoon in response to nearby police activity.
The lockdown began shortly after 2 p.m. Police announced that the lockdown had been lifted at 4:22 p.m.
"The perimeter search is now over. Traffic has reopened and Francis Tucker Elementary has been released," according to Miami police.

A school employee told Patch that the lockdown affected students from second dismissal. Children with first dismissal had already left the building.
The employee said that all of the children in the school remained safe during the lockdown and that police waited outside.

Miami Police Lt. Freddie Cruz told Patch that officers had contained the suspect within a perimeter around Douglas Road between Thomas and William avenues but were not able to apprehend him.
"We just don't know if he's maybe in someone's home," said Cruz.
The suspect was identified as 18-year-old Devante Fance of Miami.
Cruz said that Fance is suspected in a recent armed robbery in the Coral Gables area as well as battery of a police office in Miami.
The elementary school is located at 3500 Douglas Road and has 329 pupils in grades k-5.
