Live Arts Miami and Miami Jazz Booking Present: Cumbia Sin Fronteras (mdc.edu) — Miami Beach residents can catch a high-energy cumbia dance night at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 7–11 p.m., with tickets starting at $30. Colombian accordionist Yeison Landero headlines alongside Miami's Sonora Tukukuy, kicking off Live Arts Miami's new season with a social, dance-focused concert right in the heart of the city. 
2. 'It concerns me': Miami Beach condo residents dealing with flooding from King Tides (nbcmiami.com) — Miami Beach condo residents along West Avenue are still dealing with King Tide flooding in their garages, lobbies, and nearby streets, disrupting daily life and power. The city is investing over $100 million in West Avenue flood improvements and is currently offering free temporary parking at select garages for residents in repeatedly flooded areas while crews pump out water.
3. Miami Jewish launches global challenge to get day schools to embrace AI (ejewishphilanthropy.com) — A Miami Beach day school principal is helping put the city on the map in Jewish education by launching a global AI-for-education challenge from Pardes Day School. The contest drew more than 70 entries worldwide, showcasing tools that track student progress, create Torah curricula and even build AI-powered escape rooms, all aimed at helping teachers better serve diverse learners.
4. Man ran after his roommate, shooting at him on a Miami Beach street, police say (miamiherald.com) — A Miami Beach man is jailed without bond after police say he chased his longtime roommate and fired multiple shots at his car near 71st Street and Bonita Drive. The victim flagged down officers at a nearby gas station, and investigators later recovered firearms from the suspect, highlighting an alarming incident in this normally residential North Beach corridor.
5. ADC Wins Major First Amendment Victory in Pacheco v. City of Miami Beach (adc.org) — A Miami Beach resident's First Amendment lawsuit against the city and its mayor is moving forward after a federal judge refused to dismiss key claims. The case centers on police visiting her home over pro-Palestine social media posts, and could reshape how Miami Beach officials handle political speech, protests, and criticism from residents going forward.
