• Man arrested in connection with the 2025 killing of a Eustis woman (clickorlando.com) — Mount Dora is directly involved in a major homicide investigation after the body of Eustis resident Monica Islam was found there in May 2025, leading to a recent arrest. Detectives say her brother-in-law was extradited to Lake County and now faces a first-degree murder charge, while another relative remains abroad. Investigators believe a property dispute originating in Bangladesh may be connected to the case.

Stiver (leesburg-news.com) — Longtime Mount Dora resident Wendell “Rich” Stiver, 78, has passed away, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, storytelling, and deep community ties he built after moving here in 1955. His children in Astatula and Eustis, along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, remember him for his generosity and love of local history. Memorial service details will be shared later.
