Locals at Boston Marathon: Chris Batista fastest; Jim Musante guts out his 46th (news-journalonline.com) — New Smyrna Beach runner Jim Musante just finished his 46th straight Boston Marathon, gutting it out despite recent injuries to keep one of the event’s longest active streaks alive. Several other New Smyrna Beach and nearby Volusia-Flagler runners also posted strong times, showcasing how well local athletes stacked up against more than 30,000 competitors from around the world.

Rodent droppings, sewage on floor in 4 Daytona, Flagler restaurants (news-journalonline.com) — If you eat out in New Smyrna Beach, you’ll want to know that South of the Mouth Cafe recently passed its state inspection with zero violations, while Big Joe’s Subs was cited for several high-priority issues. The roundup also details serious problems at restaurants in Daytona Beach, Port Orange, Ormond Beach, and Flagler County, from rodent droppings to sewage on floors.

3. Minor league catcher turned in by Atlanta Braves following deadly I-75 hit-and-run crash: FHP (fox5ny.com) — A New Smyrna Beach truck driver, 34-year-old Stavan Albert Facey, was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on I-75 in Manatee County after a Mustang allegedly weaved through traffic and triggered a rollover. Troopers say an 18-year-old Atlanta Braves minor league catcher was later arrested on vehicular homicide and hit-and-run charges, and the investigation continues. Facey’s family says he leaves behind four children.

4. Truck driver killed in Interstate 75 wreck (yourobserver.com) — A 34-year-old truck driver from New Smyrna Beach was killed in a three-vehicle crash on I-75 at State Road 64 early Monday morning, according to Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers say a black Ford Mustang briefly stopped, then fled the scene, and they’re asking anyone with information or video to contact FHP or Crime Stoppers.
