PASCO COUNTY, FL — A 48-year-old Zephyrhills woman was seriously injured after a pickup truck hit her while she was riding a bicycle on Fort King Road last month, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release. The driver fled the scene.

The crash happened the afternoon of Sept. 25, when a black Chevrolet Silverado traveling north on the road overtook the bicyclist south of Waldo Road, just before 2:30 p.m..

The truck's passenger-side mirror struck the woman's head, causing serious injuries, troopers said.

The driver initially stopped and inspected the vehicle before observing the woman on the ground and fleeing the scene, investigators said.

The bicyclist remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Investigators believe the suspect vehicle is a 2023-2025 Chevrolet Silverado with a bed cover. The truck may be missing the chrome cap on its passenger-side mirror.

Witnesses described the driver as a heavy-set white or Hispanic man, FHP said.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol at *347 or Crime Stoppers at **TIPS.
