Aromatherapy with Anise Seed

Anise Seed is indigenous to Eastern Mediterranean (Greece, Egypt) and western Asia. Now widely cultivated mainly in Spain, India, Europe, Russia, Mexico, Egypt. 

 Has a clean sweet top note, with a strong anisic (licorice-like) middle note. Lightly tenacious with a woody-anethole dry out.  

 Anise seed essential oil is cheering, mildly euphoric, sense enhancing.  Anise Seed has experienced a multitude of uses during the course of history. It was used to perfume the clothing of King Edward IV, as a food flavoring during the Middle Ages, and to fund repairs on the London Bridge, for which a special tax was added to the sale of anise seed. Pliny the Elder, author of the first encyclopedia, claimed its seeds had the power to prevent bad dreams if placed beneath the sleeper’s pillow. Anise seed (or aniseed) is a member of the parsley family, and its flavor resembles licorice. Used medicinally since prehistoric times, anise seed remains a staple in aromatherapy.

For pleasant dreams, mix with chamomile and use in a diffuser.

Anise Seed also blends well with: Lavender, rose, orange, pine.  Safety Data: May be an eye/skin irritant. Avoid during pregnancy.
