Deadline to File Your Florida Homestead Exemption

The deadline to file for your 2012 Homestead Exemption is March 1, 2013.  If you bought a home on or before December 31, 2012 you have until March 1st to file for your Homestead Exemption.  

Homeowners who have a Homestead in another state you cannot file for the exemption.  Commercial use property does not qualify for the exemption.  The homestead exemption is a constitutional guarantee that reduces assessed taxable value of residential property up to $25,000 for qualified permanent residences.  Simply bring your Florida Drivers License, Warranty Deed and Vehicle registration to your local County Appraisers Office by the close of business on March 1, 2013 to file.  Manufactured Homeowners should supply the mobile home registration or title if the mobile home needs to be declared as real property.
