In the physical world new life comes in the spring. Easter is upon us and with it comes new life as promised by Jesus Christ.

Originally this blog post was intended to be up on the website last Friday.  However, technical difficulties prevented the post from being made.  Since it originally contained information about a church event this past weekend, I have edited it since that information is now out of date.  However, since the message of Easter is never out of date, I am posting Pastor Andre’ Erasmus message about Resurrection Sunday in its entirety:

In the physical world new life comes in the spring.  Flowers, long dormant, begin to bloom.  Trees, brown and barren during the long winter months, turn green and begin to bring forth their fruit.  In the spiritual world new life comes in the spring as well.  Easter is upon us and with it comes new life as promised by Jesus Christ.

His death upon the cross, which we remember on Good Friday, was the precursor to His resurrection on Easter Sunday.  Long predicted, His death was more than just ancient prophesy fulfilled, it was the completion of a covenant God made with His creation; man.  When Adam and Eve disobeyed God and allowed sin to enter the world, God cursed the one who deceived them.  Even then, at the dawn of time, God Himself foretold of the coming of His Son.  When He died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins, Jesus fulfilled God’s own promise to Adam and Eve that He would set their sin straight.  His sacrificial death paid the ultimate price that man was not able to pay.

Even though eggs and bunnies and candies are nice, they are not what Easter is really all about.  While you and your family enjoy the treats and fun that surround this most sacred of holidays, please don’t forget that, like Christmas, the true reason for this season is not the trappings of the day but the Savior.  When we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection from the dead we are also celebrating our own resurrection from a sinful life and our acceptance into the family of God.

May you and your family have a blessed Easter season!  He has risen!
