Dear Editor: I am so furious at the misinformation and outright lies that have been told to the general public in an attempt by Politicians like Marco Rubio , Speaker Boehner and many, many more radical right or Tea Party members to try to pull down the support for the Health Care Reform Act. I was talking with some people today who thought they were very informed in believing what the wife’s boss told her when he said he would have to pay a 40% tax on her health coverage starting March 1st because of Obamacare in the sequester. Of course to begin with she is not getting what is termed Cadillac Health Coverage which could be charged a 40% Excise Tax to the insurance company charging for that type of coverage . For an insurer to have to pay that Excise Tax would mean that they are charging a premium of approximately 20,000 or more for family coverage and about 12,000 for individual coverage and that would not kick in until 2014.. You are not going to find companies rushing to supply coverage at that cost level other then perhaps the CEO of Exxon or such mega earners. Lies are being told to turn people against the Health Care Reform Act and scare them into believing that their employer cannot afford their health care when in fact he will get a tax credit for covering his employees. The Health Care Act will make it harder for that employer to deny health care to his employees and he does not like that. Another of the false things this couple was lead to believe is that at 74 the Health Care Reform Act stops you r Medicare benefits and you will no longer have benefits. They said they actually read it themselves and told me the page they believed it was on in the Health Care Reform Act. Well I checked that page and it has absolutely nothing to do with Medicare. They probably read one of those totally twisted and outright factious book or pamphlets put out by some affiliates of the Radical Right or Tea Party. This is the type of information that is being shoved out at people by the opponents of the President and the Health Care Act. There is no conscience with these people and their lies and the effect they will have on some people allowing employers and other to cheat them or lie them out of their benefits seem to be of no concern to some of our elected officials. To scare seniors into believing that they are going to lose all coverage , to threaten and claim that you are being or will be charged some outrageous Tax when that is an outright lie is unconscionable. Most of the Reforms will not even begin to take effect until 2014 and be phased in gradually over four or five years . The best parts have begun, narrowing the donut hole for drugs under part D of Medicare, allowing children to remain on parents policy up to age 26 and monitoring insurance companies servicing advantage plans making sure they use the monies received for healthcare of the beneficiaries or refund what is not utilized for care. Marco Rubio and other Republicans like him are doing a great disservice to the people of ’Florida and this country by continuing to waste time and money on fighting a program that will bring desperately needed benefits to millions and millions of middle class and poor American families. The Health Care Reform Act is probably not perfect and could use some intelligent tweaking by competent Democrats and Republicans. Marco Rubio you are in a particularly bad spot fighting against affordable health care when Florida has the second highest number of uninsured woman and children in the Nation. Shame on you for your vote against The Violence Against Woman Act and for your continued fight to deny adequate health care to thousands of needy Floridian. Marco put you big boy pants on and start doing the right things for your constituency .
