Teens Shooting Teens and Porn in Schools: What's Next?

This has been a busy week for our youth (yes, Pasco our youth) in both Pasco county and Ohio. If you have not heard teens are bullying,living with an emotional disconnect, lack of social respect and real loss of hope. The emptiness that our youth live with is epidemic in Pasco and our country, teen suicide is on the rise and teen killings. Teens are killing fellow teens and for what? I will not even try to get into the teenagers’ psyche to answer that million-dollar question. In just the last three months in Pasco, we have had one youth suicide of a young boy (12) (Hernando County but in the area) we have had a bus fight from Mitchell High and a porn shoot in the library at Fivay High. Our intelligent teens thought it would be great to promote their cinema skills and let the world see it all on Facebook.  Good job guys... you got arrested and made your emotional intelligence shine too. 

Teens today show no real remorse for their hateful acts and poor judgment. Oh, sure they cry as their parents make even more excuses and paint the accused teen to look like a victim. Society blames the schools, the police, the elected leaders, the media, video games and music. All of these do have an impact but how about looking in the mirror mom and dad. You make the greatest impact on your child's life.  You mom and dad, these are your children that are hurting, not caring, and refusing to follow social norms of society. I am not suggesting that our teens become robots just contributing members of society. We have many issues in our county and country that are well out of the regular citizens reach,however, parenting seems to be a lost art one that is well within every parnets reach the home. 

To make matters worse I read yesterday of the heartless teen killer T.J. Lane in Chardon, Ohio who on February 27, 2012 planned and killed three teen boys while injuring a few more teens. He received three life terms plus 25 years for the attempted murder of the injured teens. While in the courtroom, he revealed a t-shirt that read KILLER then flipped the victims’ families off as he smiled at them. The actions of Lane are appalling, lives were lost, and others damaged forever.

The questions are many: the answers are few

 What has happened to the future of this country?  We need to ask our young men, what is going on with you? Young men far past their teens well into their 20s still behave as if they are 15.  Our young women are emotionally broken to the point of “cutting” themselves, wanting to become pregnant in the misguide belief that, that will give them the love they are craving. Boys and girls bully others and participate in intense negative behavior to verify what, that each is hard or street tough? Teens today say they want respect I ask you teens, from who, how does society owe you respect when you act like this?

 In my day one earned everything including respect. As a culture, we are bleak, broken, and cold. Our future leaders, fathers, mothers are giving up before they even start.  It is time for concerned adults and teens to help turn this mess around.
