In 2010, 2,753 people committed suicide. The number of yearly suicides among students ages 15-19 keeps climbing. Successful suicides take place at a rate of 7.8 per day. The youngest to commit suicide was only six years of age in 2008. This is just in the state of Florida. According to Department of Defense stats, even more people commit suicide than die at the hands of our enemies while at war. When the rate of suicide is two to three times that of deaths by homicide, and many times that while at war, one must ask, "What's wrong with this picture?" why are we failing so many people? What can we do to stem the tide?
