Breastfeeding Mom's School Ban Lifted
She had been issued a trespass warning that prohibited her from visiting her niece's school for the rest of the year.

A 25-year-old breastfeeding mother banned from visiting her niece’s Niceville elementary school campus has found out that ruling no longer stands.
The Okaloosa County School District asked the county’s sheriff’s office to lift the warning that was issued to Megan Shoemaker, the Northwest Florida Daily News reported. The paper said Shoemaker received a letter Friday letting her know she was welcome to return to Plew Elementary School.
The trespass warning was issued last Wednesday following a visit to the school by Shoemaker and her infant daughter. A parent complained about Shoemaker breastfeeding the child during an outdoor event at the school.

While Shoemaker said there was a barrier between herself and the students, the school’s principal, Carolyn McAllister, asked her to use discretion.
Shoemaker thought she had.

The incident escalated when Shoemaker, who picks up her niece daily, stopped by the front office. McAllister said the young mother became “belligerent,” WFTV reported.
Even though Shoemaker denied being confrontational, the school’s resource deputy and McAllister tracked her down in a cruiser to issue the warning, which also ultimately barred her from visiting the campus for the rest of the school year.
While she’s happy to once again be allowed to visit her niece’s campus, Shoemaker told the Northwest Florida Daily News she’s not completely satisfied.
“I feel I am owed an apology,” she said.
