No one ever said parenting was easy - rewarding yes, easy no. Parenting is like any great adventure in life, there are ups and there are downs. There is no map showing you how to be a good parent. Lots of people will give you advice, but in the end it is up to you to choose what is best for you and your family. Being a parent is a constant juggling act. There are children, spouses and jobs, all of which require your energy. One thing is certain, once you’re a parent your priorities change and your perspective is never the same.
Take a holiday like Valentine’s Day for example. It is supposed to be a day to express your love to your sweetheart. A day filled with flowers, candy and cards. Many childless couples have romantic evenings planned with candlelight dinners. And then there are those of us with children. Last year we spent Valentine’s Day eating Chinese food and watching a Disney movie, and to me it was perfect. A change in perspective.
I want to let all of you men in on a secret, there are few things more attractive to a woman than a man being an amazing father. When we see a smiling child wrapped in your arms we want to run up to you and shower you with kisses. You become a super hero. And to a child, especially a girl, no one can measure up to her father. It is the one man who can fix anything, who can somehow make it all better.

This year the New Port Richey Recreation and Aquatic Center decided to do something to celebrate that bond. On February 15th, from 3 – 5 pm there will be a Daddy Daughter Dance. We know that every family is unique, so whoever is playing the “Daddy” role is more than welcome to come. Children ages 10 and under are welcome and free, adults are $2.
