Construction Begins On 1,100-Acre Brooksville Community
Metro Development Group broke ground on an 1,100-acre master-planned community with nearly 4,000 homes in Brooksville.

BROOKSVILLE, FL — Metro Development Group is breaking ground Wednesday on a 1,100-acre planned community in Hernando County that is expected to bring nearly 4,000 homes, a 2.5-acre lagoon and miles of trails to the area along Cortez Boulevard.
Sunrise Hills will be located near Sherman Hills Golf Course and the Withlacoochee State Trail, with access to Interstate 75 connecting residents to Brooksville and the greater Tampa Bay region, according to a news release from Metro Development Group.
The development will feature three national homebuilders: DRB Homes, D.R. Horton and Lennar.

The community’s design will incorporate elements inspired by Brooksville’s character, including an entry monument with silo-style features modeled after the city’s Brooksville Silo Project.
The name Sunrise Hills references the area’s reputation as one of the first places in Hernando County to see the sunrise.

“Sunrise Hills represents a significant expansion of our investment in Hernando County,” Lisa Gibbings, the company’s vice president of corporate affairs, said in a statement. “We’ve listened to buyers and builders who want more than homes. They want communities with places to gather, stay active and enjoy the outdoors.”
Sunrise Hills is the company’s second major planned community in Hernando County. Metro is also developing Sandal Key, an 872-acre community planned for more than 3,000 homes. That project is expected to break ground in December and will feature the company’s first lazy river integrated into a lagoon setting.
Together, the two developments encompass nearly 2,000 acres and are planned to include more than 7,200 homes at full buildout.
Sunrise Hills is part of Metro Development Group’s broader portfolio of master-planned communities in Florida, including Mirada, Epperson, Angeline, Southshore Bay and Seaire in the Tampa Bay area.
