Chase Ends With Crash at Police Headquarters
A deputy says the woman was falling asleep behind the wheel on U.S. 19 before the 'low-speed chase' began.

NEW PORT RICHEY, FL — Pasco County law enforcement officers didn’t have to travel far to put one of their latest arrestees into a holding cell.
Liisa Myers drove herself to New Port Richey Police Headquarters Thursday afternoon where she arrived with a bang and a crash, an email from the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office stated.
Liisa – which really is Liisa with two I’s, according to the sheriff’s office – caught the attention of a deputy around 1:45 p.m. when he noticed she was dozing off behind the wheel while driving northbound on U.S. 19 at Marine Parkway. Hoping to prevent an accident, the deputy used lights and the siren to try and get Myers’ attention, the email stated.

Myers eventually slowed to a stop in front of a New Port Richey Police officer who got out of his cruiser to make sure she stayed put. Myers, the email said, decided to keep on going and “surged her vehicle toward the officers forcing him to take evasive action and jump out of the way.” She then hit the gas, drove onto a median and kept on going.

A “low-speed pursuit” began at that time (around 40 mph) with both the deputy and police officer trailing Myers, the email said. At one point, Myers almost hit a cruiser.
“Then she ended up in the parking lot of the New Port Richey Police Department where she drove over a curb and onto the lawn,” the email said. “She then backed up, slamming into a NPR PD cruiser.”
Myers was quickly brought into custody after that. She faces fleeing and eluding and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer charges. Other charges are pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation. It is unclear if Myers was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, the sheriff’s office said. A firearm was found inside her vehicle.
