Deputy, SUV Driver Hospitalized After U.S. 41 Rollover Crash: Reports

BROOKSVILLE, FL — A Hernando County Sheriff’s Office deputy and another driver were hospitalized after a Saturday morning rollover crash on U.S. 41 in Brooksville, authorities said.

The crash happened just before 11 a.m. at the intersection of Broad Street (U.S. 41) and Grande Entrada Boulevard. ‘

The 28-year-old deputy was heading south on U.S. 41 at the same time the other vehicle involved in the crash, a Nissan Rogue driven by a 69-year-old Weeki Wachee man, was traveling east on Grand Entrada Boulevard, WFLA reported.

The deputy was trying to pull over another vehicle for speeding south on U.S. 41 when the SUV pulled out onto the highway from the Grand Entrada intersection and was hit by the patrol vehicle, Fox 13 reported.

After the collision, the patrol car overturned several times, while the SUV rotated and came to a rest in the U.S. 41 travel lanes, the Hernando Sun said.

Both drivers were trapped inside their vehicles and needed to be extricated, Hernando County Fire Rescue wrote in a social media post.

The deputy was brought to a local trauma center for treatment, while the other driver involved was treated at a nearby hospital, HCSO wrote in a social media post. Neither of their injuries were life threatening.

The crash is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol, the sheriff’s office said.
