GEEKNOTE: Spring Has Sprung

GEEKNOTE:  While large parts of the rest of the country are dealing with yet another blast of ice and snow, our 10 day forecast is for temps into the 70's every day except one and it is supposed to get up to 69 that day.  Lows generally in the 50's.  Contrast that with the weather up north where they are hoping to see temps creep above freezing a bit.

This past weekend was as close to picture perfect as you could get.  I got a long delayed window project finished.  I'd been waiting for a full weekend with zero percent chance of rain to scrape, reglaze, and repaint six second story windows and we got a beautiful weekend to start off March.

The New Port Richey Rotary Club held its annual Wild Game Dinner Saturday night.  I'm partial to the buffalo that was one of the meats served for dinner, but will admit to ODing on the jalapeno poppers they were serving as appetizers this year.  The only thing better than the weather Saturday evening was getting to spend time with old friends, some of whom I hadn't seen in years.

I couldn't help notice all the azaleas in bloom while I was sitting on the porch rebuilding the screen frames  to go over the upstairs windows Sunday afternoon.  Blooming azaleas are a guaranteed sign that the Chasco Fiesta and its lineup of great music can't be far behind.   Chasco starts of March 21st and runs through Saturday, March 29th.  (The Hunger walk, new this year, will be held the Saturday before (March 15th).  For more info, visit http://www.chascofiesta.com

I did manage to get to a stopping point and take a break so I could go enjoy the Richey Concert Band out at the River Ridge Center for the Performing Arts.  If you've never heard the Richey Concert Band, you should mark 2:30pm on March 30th on your calendar.  They will be back at the River Ridge Center with another lineup of great band music.

All this and absolutely no snow to shovel while trying to get out to the mailbox!

"Chamber of Commerce" weather and great civic events are just two of the reasons I love this time of year.  I can honestly say that there is nowhere else I'd rather live than New Port Richey.

I'm looking forward a great week ahead with near perfect weather on tap again next weekend.

What do you like about living here?  Let us know.
