Port Richey Residents Caught In Middle Of Fraud Scheme

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office is investigating a scam in which Port Richey residents were inadvertently involved.

PORT RICHEY, FL – The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a scam in which Port Richey residents were inadvertently involved.

On May 30, residents of 7937 Portage Drive in Port Richey received a package with the wrong first name attached. The package contained pamphlets and miscellaneous fliers.

Shortly after, two Hispanic men in a dark Toyota arrived at the home and asked for the package. The residents handed it over.

On May 31, a similar packaged was delivered to the home and the same two men came by and asked for it. This time, the residents didn’t turn the package over to them.

The men forced their way into the home. When the residents told them they were calling the sheriff’s office, the men fled.

The residents opened the package and this time it contained $8,000 and a magazine.

The sheriff’s office sought the help of the U.S. Postal Inspector’s Office who said the delivery of the packages was part of a fraud scheme directed toward an elderly couple in Alabama.

The investigation is continuing.
