Shred Your Confidential Documents for Free at the 4th Annual ShredFest

4th Annual “ShredFest” Offers a Chance to Shred Your Confidential Documents Safely and Securely…and Totally Free

A partnership between the Pasco Sheriff’s Office Economic Crimes Unit, Independent Financial Services  and ShredGreen brings this event to New Port Richey this year

Do you have a large amount of confidential paperwork that needs to be shredded, or do you simply want to make sure that your confidential documents get shredded completely? Then Independent Financial Services and the Pasco Sheriff’s Office Economic Crimes Unit invite you to attend the 4th Annual “ShredFest” on Saturday, May 17, 2014, from 10 a.m. – noon at the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office (8700 Citizen Drive, New Port Richey, FL 34654). A drop-off area will be set up in the parking lot for easy drop off and transport to the shredding truck.

ShredGreen will have a shredding truck onsite from 10 a.m. – noon only that day and if you like, you may stay and watch your items being shredded. ShredGreen guarantees one hundred percent of your shredded documents are recycled into materials such as paper towels and boxes.

According to www.document-shredding.org, in the United States, over 250 million tons of waste, or just under 5 pounds of paper-related garbage is produced every day by each individual. This will go to landfills where the garbage simply piles up, unless it is properly recycled by individuals or by companies like ShredGreen.

With everything going digital, how do you know which paper documents to keep and if so, for how long? This is a question the financial advisors at Independent Financial Services hear from their clients year after year, so here are some tips on what to shred and what to keep.

Items to shred after one year include: receipts for small purchases, bank records, credit card bills, pay stubs and household bills. Items to shred after seven years include: federal/state tax returns, canceled checks and check registers.

Here are some items you should never shred: home improvement receipts, receipts for major purchases, annual investment statements, gift tax returns, investment statements, estate planning documents (will, etc.), health care proxy forms, inheritance papers and life insurance policies.

If you are still unsure about what paperwork or records you should keep, and what is safe to shred, call one of the financial advisors at Independent Financial Services for a complimentary review of your financial paperwork at (813) 908-2701.
