Tax Collector Mike Fasano & Supervisor of Elections Brian Corley Announce Successful Joint Motor Voter Training Program

The Pasco County Tax Collector and the Pasco County Supervisor of Elections share one important function: registering new voters.  This unusual partnership is the result of the National Voter Registration Act of 1993, also known as the Motor Voter law.  The federal law requires offices that provide drivers license services to also offer individuals the opportunity to become registered voters.  Once a customer completes the required documentation at the tax collector’s office, the information is routed through the Florida Department of State and down to the Pasco Supervisor of Elections.  The Supervisor of Elections is responsible for maintaining that voter’s records from that point on.

For the first time in known Pasco County history, Supervisor of Elections Brian Corley and his staff conducted a joint training of every staff member of Tax Collector Mike Fasano’s office who handles or oversees the tasks necessary to comply with this federal law.  In a series of classes held throughout the county the two staffs met and reviewed the functions of the supervisor of elections' office as well as the requirements of the law.  By the end of the training sessions, all customer service representatives were trained on the proper way to handle voter registration requests.
