The Health Benefits for the Natural Candle Waxes

Benefits of Beeswax Candles - Allergy, sinus, and asthma relief just from lighting a candles. But beeswax candles don’t cause any of those problems. In fact, people with allergies, sinus problems, and asthma have reported significant improvement in their symptoms, breathing better and sleeping better after burning the 100 percent beeswax candles in their bedrooms for three to four hours before bedtime. One person who burned a beeswax candle all day when she was home reported that her asthma gradually went away completely.

Although scientists still don’t know all the intricacies of the complex molecules in beeswax, there’s at least a partial explanation for the healthful action of burning beeswax candles. According to entomologist Bill Reno, burning beeswax produces negative ions.1 Negative ions are nature’s air purifiers, cleaning the air of dust, mold, bacteria, viruses, and other pollutants.

The candle has to be 100 percent beeswax. And, unfortunately, a candle only needs to contain 51 percent beeswax to be labeled as a beeswax candle. The rest can be paraffin (or anything else burnable), so it may not be as easy as picking one up the next time you’re at the mall.

Beeswax candles can be on the expensive side–at least in comparison to “regular” paraffin candles. But beeswax actually burns slower, so you’ll get more for your money than if you opted for the cheaper versions. Plus, the potential for better respiratory health is well worth the few extra cents.  I can offer beeswax container candles, white or yellow, no scent is required but the cost would be about 3 to 4 times the price of my other candles.

Palm wax and its benefits. Palm wax candles are designed to burn completely and cleanly with virtually no soot. The natural character of palm wax gives our candles a unique, beautiful, crystallized appearance that you will fall in love with. With the unique patterns, no two candles are identical.

Palm candles are longer-burning and higher quality. Palm wax holds and disperses fragrances better than soy, and the fragrance maintains evenly throughout the burn of the candle, and it resists melting in hot summer months since it has a higher melting point than paraffin or soy. These candles burn significantly longer than the average candle on the market.

Why are palm wax candles difficult to find in stores? Palm wax is more expensive than paraffin candles found at retailers. For most companies, the cost savings of using paraffin outweighs the potential environmental and health risks that are caused by paraffin candles.

The Problem with Palm Wax - Environmental Impact

Candle makers concerned with environmental issues have been aware of the problems with palm wax for many years. Desperate to improve economic conditions, the Indonesian and Malaysian governments have allowed palm producers to ravage the local environment. The incredible rate of deforestation in Indonesia ranks it as one of the world's largest CO2 emitters. Because of this Aesthetic Candles has discontinued the use of Palm Wax for candles.
