U.S. Senator Seeks to Force GM to Create a Victim's Fund

The lawyers at Safety Harbor product defect law firm Ewusiak & Roberts have written extensively in the past few weeks about the General Motors (GM) recall involving more than a million vehicles that had faulty ignitions.  The defect leading to the recall can cause the vehicles to suddenly lose power during operation, including at highway speed.  Loss of steering and braking while traveling down the highway can have obvious deadly consequences.  As we have explained in past stories, there is mounting evidence that GM was aware of the problem for a full ten years before the recall, and tried to cover it up.    The Justice Department is even considering criminal action against the company and/or some of its employees.   Some of our past reporting on this amazing story can be found in this Article, which also includes other links:

GM Ignition Recall — Should GM Be Required to Pay Victims Punitive Damages?

Now, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal has called upon the Justice Department to force GM to set up a fund to compensate victims who were injured or killed due to the faulty ignitions, and to intervene in civil lawsuits pending against GM to prevent GM from refusing to take personal responsibility for its actions in lawsuits brought by victims and their families.

If you have a vehicle involved in the recall, act immediately.  These vehicles are potentially dangerous!  Included in the recall are the following models:

CHEVROLET COBALT:  2005-2007
CHEVROLET HHR:  2006-2007
PONTIAC G5:  2007
PONTIACSOLSTICE:  2006-2007
SATURN ION:  2003-2007
SATURN SKY:  2007

If you own any GM vehicle, we suggest you check with your dealer immediately to ask if it is part of the recall or if you should have it looked at by a professional.
