Update: Morris Bridge Road Open After Deputy-Involved Crash

The accident happened just east of Interstate 75 Friday morning.

Update Oct. 10, 10:13 a.m.: While the crash remains under investigation, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has released some preliminary findings.

Deputies say Shanika Davis, 34, was trying to cross Morris Bridge Road’s westbound lanes to go east when the Friday morning crash occurred. Davis was behind a tractor trailer at the intersection with the northbound off ramp of Interstate 75.

As Davis attempted to go forward, the truck in front of her stopped, forcing her to also stop in the westbound lanes, an email to media from sheriff’s spokeswoman Debbie Carter stated. At this time, Deputy Ladarian Rudolph, 29, was traveling west on Morris Bridge Road. He tried to stop, but struck the driver’s side of Davis’ 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe.
