Bernie Sanders betrayed another supporter in Florida

Vermont lawmaker has been selling out the political revolution ever since he inspired it by embracing political establishment candidates

US Senator Bernie Sanders worked closely with liberal Representative Alan Grayson in Congress but he threw his progressive ally under the bus when it came to election time.

Many supporters of US Senator Bernie Sanders were feeling bern-ed after the Vermont lawmaker endorsed Hillary Clinton in 2016, seemingly selling out the political revolution he inspired.

In 2020, Sanders ignored Larry Hamm—his campaign chairman in the Garden State who was contesting Senator Cory Booker's re-election at the time—as well as other Bernie enthusiasts—but he endorsed two women who backed Hillary Clinton in the 2016 primaries as well as other 2020 presidential contenders.

One local political observer there noted that, "Bernie Sanders did not support any primary candidate in New Jersey who supported Bernie Sanders in a New Jersey primary." Well, at least he's consistent because Bernie Sanders sold another major supporter down the river in Florida's recent primary.

Now, Sanders appears to have betrayed former Congressman Alan Grayson by endorsing in the Democratic primary to succeed Rep. Val Demings, the 25-year-old victor Maxwell Frost.

Sanders and Grayson often worked closely on legislation that redefined progressive policies with initiatives like Medicare for All while shunning billionaire financing.

Grayson filed a bill to make tuition free and restructure student loans for students at public colleges and universities modeled after a bill introduced by Sanders in the U.S. Senate.

“The Fed can no longer operate in virtual secrecy,” declared Sanders after he proposed an amendment to a financial regulatory reform bill that was similar albeit not as muscular as the bipartisan legislation sponsored by Grayson and Texas Congressman Ron Paul, a conservative Republican with libertarian leanings.

The Grayson-Paul bill would have authorized audits by the Government Accountability Office of every item on the Federal Reserve’s balance sheet, including all credit facilities and all securities purchase programs; there would be exemption only for unreleased transcripts, minutes of closed-door meetings, and the most recent decisions of the central bank.

Grayson, a three-term congressman from Orlando, earned national name recognition as a progressive firebrand, known for colorful and sometimes outlandish soundbites.

Frost seems typical of the young ideological voter who backed Sanders' 2016 presidential campaign but he snared millions of dollars in campaign funding, including a massive cash infusion from cryptocurrency billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried.

Bernie Sanders endorsed Maxwell Frost instead of Alan Grayson
At great political risk to himself, Grayson endorsed Sanders and announced in February 2016, that he would vote for the Vermont lawmaker as a super-delegate at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia despite polling that showed Florida's Democratic voters overwhelmingly preferred Clinton.

The move was not without cost to Grayson, who was defeated in the Democrat primary by moderate Rep. Patrick Murphy, a former Republican who switched parties in 2011 and whose effort to secure the nomination involved

Murphy was crushed by Republican incumbent Marco Rubio in the November general election, losing 52% to 44%.

“America needs a revolution. And only Bernie Sanders, as President of the United States, can make one,” Grayson said at that time. “Bernie Sanders is unbought and unbossed. So am I. That is an essential element of the political revolution.”

Instead of heralding Grayson's return to politics, Sanders endorsed the candidate who had raised the most money and was backed by a cyber currency billionaire. In fact, Frost raised more money than all nine of the other Democratic primary candidates combined!

Robert Reich recently warned that cryptocurrency is dangerous, saying, "Believe me when I tell you this: They're selling you snake oil."

It seems like Bernie is either buying it or just selling out the people who supported him but no matter how you cut it, his political loyalty is zero.
