Celebrate Thanksgiving Day by giving thanks
Be thankful for those who serve in our communities, provide for the less fortunate and defend our shores

The great University of Florida quarterback and Heisman Trophy Winner Tim Tebow once said: “I'm just thankful for everything, all the blessings in my life, and trying to stay that way. I think that's the best way to start your day and finish your day. It keeps everything in perspective." Central Floridians will be celebrating Thursday an American tradition that began 398 years ago in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Of course, here in Florida, we all know that the first Thanksgiving happened in St. Augustine many years earlier. As we gather with our families to enjoy a feast of freshly cooked turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberries, and an assortment of mouthwatering pies, it's important to set aside a moment to think about gratitude. Gratitude and giving thanks go hand in hand in our American culture.
Although it's easy to point to the many troubles facing our communities, nation and world, there is much to be thankful for in central Florida. We can begin by being thankful for our families. We can be thankful to be living in a prosperous state includes our great national forests, wonderful lakes and river, and beautiful beaches, There are many reasons why millions of people from all over the world flock to central Florida every year to experience the "happiest place on earth." Central Floridians are fortunate to have a place at the Thanksgiving dinner table for all, thanks to our generous food banks and homeless shelters. Thanksgiving Day is also a time to be thankful to live in land of hope and liberty, where our dreams can become true.
Let's set aside our difficulties we may be facing personally for at least one day and be thankful for those who serve in our communities, provide for the less fortunate and defend our shores. Let's start and end our Thanksgiving Day celebration by remembering to give thanks.
