Julian Taylor Shares Second Single from Upcoming LP

Catch the Upbeat Blues Rock Tune "Running Away"

Veteran singer-songwriter and 4x JUNO nominee Julian Taylor has an upbeat and bluesy new slice from his upcoming album, Pathways (out September 27th), to share.

“Running Away” juxtaposes the empathetic Americana of lead single “Weighing Down” with a driving piece of blues rock which tries to outrun hurt and pain instead of facing it head on.

This song was produced by Colin Linden and the version you hear today is the first take recorded live off of the floor, capturing the electrifying spark of a rollicking and soulful full band groove.

“All my life I’ve been a huge rural blues fan. My grandfather used to spin old blues records like Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee when I was a kid so that kind of rockabilly country blues groove lives inside me. I would say that [this] song is inspired by the blues music that came out of plantation fields.” - Julian Taylor

On his latest album, Pathways, Julian Taylor candidly captures how he approaches handling a litany of ever-lingering burdens which mirror the struggles we all experience. This relentless inner search has resulted in a collection of eight concise tracks co-produced by Taylor and Colin Linden (Emmylou Harris, Bruce Cockburn, Blackie and The Rodeo Kings), mixed by Colin Linden, and mastered by Greg Calbi.

Taylor looked even further inward than ever before to corral this succinct song cycle which attempts to come to grips with the throes of strife that wrack us all, yet somehow find a way to power through it all.

“When you feel heavy, you’ve got to get things off your chest,” believes Taylor, “and Pathways reflects the way I was feeling while I was writing it and making it. What any of us are going through at any particular time acts as an imprint of what we’re battling and trying to heal within ourselves.”
