RootsTech 2026: Global Family Discovery in a Digital Age

Roots 2026 Conference is the largest in-person and online family history and genealogy event in the world

RootsTech, hosted by FamilySearch, has provided a place for people all over the world to learn, share and make life-changing family discoveries and meaningful connections — together. That is why “Together” is such an appropriate theme for the 2026 conference, said Jonathan Wing, director of events for FamilySearch International. RootsTech 2026, scheduled for March 5–7 in Salt Lake City and online worldwide, continues to redefine what a modern conference can be. Known as the largest family history and genealogy gathering in the world, the event will together participants from more than 200 countries for three days of learning, connection, and discovery. Hosted annually by FamilySearch, the conference blends technology, storytelling, and historical research into an experience that is as much about people as it is about records and data.

This year’s conference program reflects the rapidly evolving landscape of family history research. Hundreds of classes will cover topics ranging from DNA analysis and archival methods to digital storytelling and artificial intelligence tools that help uncover ancestral connections. These sessions are designed for all skill levels, allowing newcomers to start their first family tree while offering advanced researchers deep dives into specialized methodologies.

Keynote speakers for 2026 include figures from sports, science, and faith who share personal stories about identity and heritage. Their presentations will emphasize the emotional power of discovering one’s roots and the role family history plays in shaping cultural understanding.
