Palm Harbor Man Latest Wrong-Way Driver Arrested

The incident occurred on U.S. 19 early Tuesday morning.

A 28-year-old Palm Harbor man faces DUI charges after Pinellas County deputies pulled him over going the wrong way on U.S. 19 early Tuesday morning.

According to the sheriff’s office, the incident unfolded around 6:11 a.m. when a deputy spotted the man turning northbound onto U.S. 19 from Republic Drive. The problem, according to deputies, was that the man’s Mazda 3 entered a southbound lane.

The deputy pulled the man over and determined he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, an email to media from the sheriff’s office stated.

Zachary Che Annas of Palm Harbor was charged with driving under the influence. He was booked into the Pinellas County Jail Tuesday and was being held in lieu of $500 bond.

Annas’ arrest comes on the heels of a similar incident in Hillsborough County. Authorities there charged a woman Monday after she was spotted going the wrong way on U.S. 41. Wrong way driving incidents have plagued the Bay area in recent months, leading to several deaths in 2014.
