Local seniors downsize, donate to Caring & Sharing of South Walton
Residents of Watersound Fountains, a new independent living community, donated gently used items to Caring & Sharing of South Walton

Founding residents of Watersound Fountains, a new independent living community opening later this year in Watersound, are giving back to a worthy cause. The seniors met recently for a lunch-and-learn with Sorted 30A, a professional home organizing company, to discuss decluttering and downsizing ahead of their move. As part of the event, they also had the opportunity to donate to Caring & Sharing of South Walton.
“As our founding residents start downsizing and preparing for their upcoming move, we thought what better way to give back to the local community than to donate their unwanted items to Caring & Sharing,” said Melissa Adams, Executive Director of Watersound Foutains. “I’ve been incredibly impressed by the generosity of our residents and am looking forward to welcoming them home to our beautiful community later this year.”
Caring & Sharing of South Walton provides crisis relief to local residents through financial assistance, food, counseling, and case management. The nonprofit has a thrift shop in Santa Rosa Beach and all proceeds support its programs in the community. Through Caring & Sharing, families in need are also able to purchase items at the thrift store at a discounted price.

According to the organization, in 2022 they were able to provide local residents with more than $23,500 in thrift store vouchers and bring in more than $350,000 in revenue. The organization currently serves more than 500 residents each month.
Residents of Watersound Fountains donated gently used household items, clothes and food. Sorted30A also spoke with residents about downsizing and decluttering and gave them tips for how to downsize before a move. The community will continue to partner with both organizations as they welcome new residents to the independent living community.

“We have founding residents who volunteer with Caring & Sharing and support the orgniazation through regular giving,” said Adams. “As we welcome new residents, we’ll continue to support our local community through donations, volunteer services and education about the organization and the needs of families is South Walton county.”
