Abused, Injured Infant Left Untreated Since Labor Day: Police
The Pinellas Park parents of the baby boy were arrested on abuse and neglect charges.

PINELLAS PARK, FL – A mother and father were arrested Wednesday in Pinellas Park after first allegedly abusing, then failing to seek medical treatment since early September for their infant son, according to police.
Pinellas Park Police Department detectives said that over Labor Day weekend the baby boy, approximately 6 weeks old at the time, suffered severe head and other injuries, allegedly consistent with physical abuse, at the hands of his mother, Rosa Elena Toledo, 24, who was caring for him at the time, the department said.
Neither Toledo nor the child's father, Gabriel Patrick Allen-Rosa, 26, sought medical aid for the infant even during a trip to New Jersey during Hurricane Irma, police said.

The pair "failed to seek medical attention for the 6-week-old child knowing that the child was displaying signs of injury," the agency said. "Once the couple arrived back to their home in Florida, they both failed to again seek immediate medical attention for the infant, despite having multiple family members express their concern for the infant's overall health and well-being."
After relatives threatened to call authorities if the couple did not take the child to a doctor, the baby was taken a couple weeks ago to a Tampa hospital, police said.

The mother, Toledo, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated child abuse and aggravated child neglect, while the father, Allen-Rosa, was arrested for suspected aggravated child neglect.
Police did not disclose the current condition of the child, now approximately 13 weeks old, but did say he was recently released from the hospital. The couple also have a second older child, who is in the care of family members, police said.
