Pinellas Park Recognized As Healthy Champion

PINELLAS PARK, FL — The Florida Department of Health recently recognized multiple cities and counties as 2019 Healthy Community Champions. The City of Pinellas Park was among those recognized for successfully building on collaborations across various sectors such as transportation, urban planning,architecture and public health which encourages healthy community design leading to healthier communities.

The Healthy Community Champions Recognition Program is the Florida Department Of Health's effort to take a Health in All Policies (HiAP) approach to comprehensive planning. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, HiAP is a collaborative approach to improving health by incorporating health considerations into decision-making across sectors and policy areas. The HiAP approach provides one way to achieve the National Prevention Strategy and Healthy People 2020 goals and enhance the potential for state, territorial, and local health departments to improve health outcomes. By implementing recommended policies, local governments can promote community environments where the healthy choice is the easier choice.

The City of Pinellas Park has taken a progressive approach to planning that will ensure healthy growth and development in our community through our future update of the comprehensive plan. "The residents of Pinellas Park should be excited to learn that the Health Department has recognized the City as a 2019 Healthy Community Champion" said Ben Ziskal, Community Development Administrator, for Pinellas Park.
