Greenlight Pinellas receives endorsements from two Tampa Bay newspapers

In addition to endorsements, Greenlight plan gets Best of the Bay honor

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (Sept. 19, 2014) – The Tampa Tribune and La Gaceta endorsed passage of the Greenlight Pinellas plan this week, while Creative Loafing gave Greenlight a Best of the Bay reader’s choice award for “Best Use of Tax Money.”

The Tampa Tribune encouraged voters to vote “yes” on Greenlight Pinellas in a Sept. 12 editorial. The article described how an improved transportation system is needed in light of increasing bus ridership and population in the Tampa Bay area.

“It’s time the county adopted a comprehensive mass transit vision reflecting that dynamic growth,” the Tampa Tribune editorial said. “We think Greenlight Pinellas offers that vision and should be embraced by voters.”

The campaign also received a “wholehearted” endorsement from La Gaceta the same day. The nation’s only trilingual newspaper (English, Spanish and Italian) emphasized how the Greenlight Pinellas plan keeps the future of Pinellas County in mind.

“This is what it takes to keep Pinellas a vibrant community,” La Gaceta said. “It’s what it takes to keep and attract a young, upwardly mobile, tech-savvy generation.”

Meanwhile, Greenlight won a Best of the Bay award from Creative Loafing magazine, announced at an awards event on Sept. 17. The award, part of Creative Loafing’s reader’s choice awards, was for “Best Use of Tax Money.”

About Yes on Greenlight

The Yes on Greenlight campaign is building support for a November referendum on the Greenlight Pinellas transportation plan. The plan will dramatically improve mass transportation in Pinellas County by dramatically improving bus service and implementing a passenger rail system. The proposed plan will be funded by a tax swap, eliminating the PSTA property tax and increasing transit revenue by increasing the county’s sales tax by 1%. The referendum is up for vote on November 4, 2014. The Yes on Greenlight campaign is funded by the Friends of Greenlight PAC. To learn more visit voteyesonGreenlight.com.
