$200K Grant Awarded To Veteran Housing Project In Sarasota: Home Depot
A $200,000 Home Depot Foundation grant will help St. Vincent de Paul CARES build permanent housing for veterans at risk of homelessness.

SARASOTA, FL — The Home Depot Foundation will invest $200,000 to build 10 housing units for disabled U.S. military veterans experiencing or at risk of homelessness in Sarasota. The project is a partnership with the nonprofit St. Vincent de Paul CARES.
Each housing unit will contain two shared living spaces to accommodate a total of 20 low-income veterans with service-connected disabilities and will be wheelchair accessible, enabling residents to live independently and comfortably, according to a news release from the foundation.
St. Vincent de Paul will also provide voluntary supportive services to help residents recover, access benefits, find employment and reintegrate into society.

“Lack of affordable housing is one of the largest barriers facing low-income veterans who are at risk of homelessness in the area,” Michael Raposa, chief executive officer of St. Vincent de Paul CARES, said. “Through our partnership with The Home Depot Foundation, (our) Sarasota Veteran Permanent Supportive Housing project will provide more affordable units to ensure those veterans who so bravely served our nation are able to access quality, affordable housing.”
Since 2018, St. Vincent de Paul has opened more than 90 housing units to assist veterans experiencing homelessness. Since 2011, The Home Depot Foundation has invested $400 million in veteran causes.
