The Spanish Revival-inspired home will be the builder’s newest model in Waterside at Lakewood RanchSARASOTA, Fla. — Lee Wetherington Homes, a top rated, privately owned custom luxury home builder in Sarasota, recently broke ground on the Coquina, a new model home at Shellstone in Waterside at Lakewood Ranch.
The 3,083-square-foot, single-story home features three bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, a den and bonus room, pool and expansive outdoor living areas. Coquina offers a fresh interpretation of Spanish Revival and Modern Mediterranean design, with an earthy luxe aesthetic that layers rich wood tones, natural stone, mixed metals and patterned tile against a warm, largely monochromatic palette.
Distinctive architectural details will include a custom arched iron pivot door, wrought-iron accents, vaulted ceilings with exposed wood beams and a dramatic stone fireplace. Throughout the home, mosaic tile focal points, antique mirror accents and organic textures will add character while maintaining a rich, curated feel.
“The Coquina reflects what we want to bring to Shellstone, which is a design with real character that also feels completely at home in Florida,” said Tracy Eisnaugle, design and creative director for Lee Wetherington Homes. “Its Spanish Revival influences give it a warmth and richness that’s distinctive, while the open, light-filled design and seamless connection to outdoor living reflect the way people want to live today. We’re excited to bring something truly special to this growing community.”
The new model joins a community designed around both indoor and outdoor living. Shellstone residents have access to The Summit, the community’s newly opened more than 10,000-square-foot amenity center that features a spacious social hall, state-of-the-art fitness center, resort-style pool and spa, firepit, poolside cabanas, grilling area and fitness lawn.
Residents also enjoy Midway Sports Park, a 13-acre recreation destination with pickleball and tennis courts, basketball courts, outdoor fitness areas, a kayak launch, barbecue areas and walking trails.
Shellstone is located in Waterside, Lakewood Ranch’s first village in Sarasota County, which includes 10 distinctive neighborhoods centered around Waterside Place Town Center. Overlooking the waters of Lake Merganser, Shellstone offers a natural setting complemented by architecture inspired by Florida’s heritage.
The community is also convenient to Waterside Place, where residents have access to shopping, dining, fitness and wellness options, along with weekly events, outdoor concerts and the Lakewood Ranch Farmers’ Market.
“Shellstone is a true jewel within the top ranked Lakewood Ranch community that has consistently earned top ratings among multi-generational and master-planned community surveys nationwide,” said David Hunihan, CEO of Lee Wetherington Homes. “Lakewood Ranch continues to outperform broader national and regional trends, and Shellstone is a neighborhood where homes are crafted for connection; something that buyers have become much more deliberate about when choosing a place to live. Our clients are looking for long-term value, top rated lifestyle, schools, health care and amenities, and Shellstone delivers on all of these, which is why we will continue our investment in this exceptional community with new innovative model designs like the Coquina.”
The Coquina model is expected to open to the public in late summer/early fall 2027.

Suncoast author John M. Capozzi recently received four new Florida Authors and Publishers Association (FAPA) President's Book Awards, bringing his career total to seven honors from the prestigious statewide organization. Capozzi earned his 2026 awards for two of his books: The Shadow Warrior Two and Payback. Both received recognition in the Adult Fiction/Action-Adventure category. The latest honors continue a remarkable writing career that began nearly 25 years ago with the publication of his first book, Why Climb the Corporate Ladder When You Can Take the Elevator? He followed that with Getting It Done, a book with 1,000 maxims, anecdotes and stories about getting ahead in life and business. Capozzi has authored twelve books that can all be found on Amazon, spanning business, health and fiction. In 2023, he published Aqua Therapy: How I Prevented Major Surgery, a personal account detailing how he avoided major surgery and discovered methods to stop and prevent muscle atrophy. He also lost 18 pounds doing cardio in his pool. His five works of fiction are all based on irrefutable facts. America At Risk was written in 2012 after meeting with friends from the FBI and CIA. Given today’s events in Iran, it could not be more topical. Payback identifies how many Jewish families lost their fortunes in 1939 during WWII at the hands of a Nazi collaborator and how the Mossad brought the collaborator to justice. The Teller enlightens readers about bank fraud and how the FBI brought criminals to justice. The Shadow Warrior and The Shadow Warrior Two are spellbound thrillers about a highly trained CIA operative who finds wanted criminals and brings them to justice in a unique way. "Writing has given me an opportunity to share the experiences, lessons and adventures that have shaped my life,” said Capozzi. "To have my work recognized by FAPA is very humbling.” Capozzi's accomplishments extend far beyond the literary world. He served as an advisor to President George H. W. Bush and Secretary Colin Powell. Capozzi was also the youngest Eagle Scout in New York State history, served during the Vietnam War, and competed as a professional skier, tournament squash player, avid tennis player and golfer. Throughout his distinguished business career, he started and sold over 20 companies and earned 13 promotions in 13 years, including several C-suite positions. Most of his life stories are identified in his work, Getting It Done. An accomplished entrepreneur, Capozzi has served on many public, private and college boards. He also founded US Helicopter and Communications Corporation of America, which created the first affinity credit card used for nonprofit marketing. His expertise and achievements have led to appearances on national programs including The Today Show and Good Morning America. Capozzi continues to write actively. His book, Coping With Early-Stage Dementia, is now available on Amazon, and an audio book version will be released in August of 2026. He is currently working on his 13th book, an autobiography chronicling his extraordinary life and career. It will be released late summer. Capozzi resides in Sarasota County with his wife of more than 60 years.

Whether it's an early morning walk along the beach, an afternoon on the golf course, boating on the Gulf, or simply keeping up with grandchildren, staying active is part of everyday life in Southwest Florida.
To help residents and seasonal visitors maintain that lifestyle, USA Vein Clinics recently opened a new center at 3601 Tamiami Trail N., Ste. 2, Naples, bringing specialized vein care closer to home.
From snowbirds escaping colder climates to year-round residents, many people are surprised when symptoms such as leg pain, swelling, heaviness, fatigue, restless legs, varicose veins, or spider veins begin interfering with the activities they enjoy most.
Many people assume these symptoms are simply part of getting older. However, vein specialists say they may be signs of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), a common condition that affects blood flow in the legs.
The condition develops when vein valves become weakened or damaged, allowing blood to pool in the lower extremities rather than efficiently returning to the heart.
Because symptoms often develop gradually, people may dismiss them for months or even years.
"Many patients tell us they thought their symptoms were simply part of getting older or staying on their feet throughout the day," said Manuel E. Abella, M.D., a board-certified vein specialist at USA Vein Clinics in Naples. "The reality is that persistent leg symptoms frequently point to an underlying condition that can be identified and treated through a vein evaluation."
In a community known for year-round outdoor activity, leg discomfort can gradually limit participation in the hobbies and routines people enjoy most. Whether it's golf, walking, boating, tennis, fishing, or time at the beach, many individuals find themselves making adjustments without recognizing that vein disease may be contributing to their symptoms.
"For many patients, the most noticeable impact isn't the appearance of veins," said Patrick McGraw, M.D., FACS. "It's the heaviness, fatigue, or swelling that affects daily activities and makes it harder to stay active.”
Comprehensive vein evaluations at USA Vein Clinics include advanced ultrasound vein mapping technology to examine blood flow and identify damaged or malfunctioning veins that may be contributing to symptoms.
Following a diagnosis, patients can discuss treatment options and develop a care plan. For seasonal residents, access to specialized vein care in Naples provides an opportunity to address symptoms while they are in Florida rather than waiting until they return home.

One reason some people delay care is that they associate vein treatment with older surgical procedures that require lengthy recoveries.
Today's treatment options are very different. These modern procedures are designed for outpatient treatment to close damaged veins, reroute blood flow through healthier veins, and relieve symptoms with little downtime.
Depending on the patient's diagnosis, treatment options may include minimally invasive procedures such as Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT), Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA), VenaSeal™, Varithena®, ClariVein®, and ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy.
At USA Vein Clinics, patients benefit from comprehensive vein care in one location, from evaluation and diagnosis through treatment and follow-up care, making it easier to access the services needed to manage vein disease and stay active.

Don't Wait for Symptoms to Progress

Vein disease is a progressive condition, meaning symptoms often worsen over time if the underlying problem is not addressed.
What begins with occasional discomfort, swelling, or visible veins may eventually progress to more persistent symptoms that affect mobility, comfort, and daily activities.
For many people, the goal isn't simply treating vein disease. It's returning to the activities they enjoy without leg discomfort holding them back.
Individuals experiencing persistent leg pain, swelling, heaviness, fatigue, varicose veins, or spider veins should consider a comprehensive vein evaluation to determine whether an underlying vein condition may be contributing to their symptoms.
After all, living an active Southwest Florida lifestyle is easier when your legs can keep up with it.
The Naples clinic accepts most major insurance plans, including Medicare, and insurance eligibility can be verified using the USA Vein Clinics scheduler.
