JUPITER, FL — Did Donald Trump’s campaign manager Corey Lewandowski really grab a Breitbart News reporter hard enough following a Tuesday press conference to leave bruises behind? And, if not Lewandowski, just who is responsible for the bruising evident on Michelle Fields’ arm in a photo she posted to Twitter two days after the alleged attack?

Those questions, and possibly more, are now in the hands of the Jupiter Police Department. That agency announced Friday it had kicked off a formal investigation into the alleged March 8 battery at Trump National, 115 Eagle Tree Terrace. A police report related to the alleged battery was filed around 10 a.m. Friday morning.

While the police department hasn’t released much information about its ongoing investigation, there has been plenty of back-and-forth in the media and out of the Trump campaign following the alleged incident.

Trump’s campaign posted a statement about the alleged battery on the Republican candidate’s website Friday, but then quickly pulled it down. The statement called Fields’ allegations “entirely false” and pointed out that “not a single camera or reporter of more than 100 in attendance captured the alleged incident.”

Breitbart News reporter Joel B. Pollak posted a story that challenges the Washington Post’s assertion that Lewandowski is responsible.

“Contrary to what Donald Trump said Thursday evening after the GOP debate, the incident certainly happened,” Pollak wrote. “However, the person who made contact with Fields was likely not Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski.”

Pollak said Breitbart News did its own due diligence, reviewing video footage from the evening, to try and determine who the culprit might be. While Post reporter Ben Terris insisted he saw Lewandowski grab and yank Fields out of the way, Pollak concludes it simply could not have been Trump’s 41-year-old campaign manager as Lewandowski was walking on the opposite side of Trump from Fields and Terris.

Pollak seems to think the responsible party might be an unnamed security official with similar “short-cropped hair." Whether the Jupiter Police Department will ultimately agree with the assertion or not, remains to be seen.

Fireworks at Trump campaign events have become more or less commonplace as the businessman continues to lead other Republicans in the polls and in delegates. A black protester was sucker-punched by a Trump supporter at a Wednesday rally in Fayetteville, N.C.

Voters in Florida head to the polls Tuesday, March 15 to choose their presidential preferences for both parties. Trump continues to lead the Sunshine State in polling on the Republican side while former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has an edge over Sen. Bernie Sanders in the Democrat race.
