Man Arrested In Hillview Street Shooting Death of Sarasota Man
Deputies said the 39-year-old suspect, apprehended today, has a lengthy criminal history.

SARASOTA COUNTY, FL – A 29-year-old man was arrested today in connection with the July 13 murder of a man found shot on the 2900 block of Hillview Street in Sarasota, officials said.
The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, arrested Tannis Phillips Jr., of Sarasota, at roughly 3 p.m. after a warrant was obtained Thursday, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.
Phillips, who authorities said has a "lengthy criminal history" including robbery with a firearm, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, grand theft, and several drug charges, is accused in the shooting death of Darryl Davis, 39.

Deputies responded July 13 to Hillview Street at 4:39 a.m. for reports of a shooting. When they arrived, deputies initiated life-saving measures on Davis, who was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital and later pronounced dead. As the homicide investigation began, the suspect's description was immediately released to the media, officials said.
Phillips today was taken into custody at the intersection of University Parkway and Tuttle Avenue in Sarasota, and is charged with suspicion of second-degree murder and held at the Manatee County Jail without bond.
