ENGLEWOOD, FL — Following a criminal investigation into a fatal September crash in Englewood, a 25-year-old man faces three driving under the influence manslaughter charges, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

Three people were killed in the Sept. 12 crash involving two SUVs on State Road 776 near Artists Avenue.

Cash Kaufmann of Englewood was charged with three counts of DUI manslaughter as well as single counts of DUI property damage and vehicular homicide, FHP said. He was arrested Thursday and booked into Sarasota County Jail.

Kaufmann, driving a 2018 Hyundai SUV, was speeding at the time of the crash. He had a blood alcohol concentration level of .096 and also tested positive for THC, the agency said.

The other SUV driver, a 73-year-old Englewood woman, stopped at the stop sign on Artists Avenue, west of Indiana Avenue, as Kaufmann traveled south on Indiana Avenue just north of the intersection.

As the other SUV entered the intersection, Kaufmann crashed into its side, according to FHP.

After the collision, the woman’s SUV overturned onto its right side, coming to a rest on Indiana Avenue. Kaufmann’s SUV also came to a stop on Indiana Avenue.

The driver and one of her passengers, a 68-year-old woman from Grand Forks, North Dakota, were pronounced dead at the scene, FHP said.

Her second passenger, a 68-year-old woman from Thief River Falls, Minnesota, was brought to a nearby hospital with critical injuries. She died from her injuries on Sept. 16.
