Sarasota County invests $25 million to restore Alligator Creek (mysuncoast.com) — Sarasota County is investing $25 million to restore Alligator Creek from a straight stormwater canal back into a more natural, winding tidal stream. Funded by a NOAA grant, penny sales tax, and stormwater fees, the project aims to reduce flooding and polluted runoff while improving wildlife habitat and water quality in the Lemon Bay watershed.
   

4. Sarasota County promotes new fire chief from within (yourobserver.com) — Sarasota County has named longtime emergency services leader William Sturgeon as its new permanent fire chief after a nationwide search. With four decades of experience and strong ties to Florida's fire service, he's expected to guide the department's growth and training as the county continues to expand and demand for emergency response increases.
   

5. 'If you look up humanitarian in the dictionary, her picture should be there': disaster relief advocate in fight of her life (mysuncoast.com) — A Sarasota disaster relief advocate known for helping residents after major storms is now battling stage IV metastatic melanoma, undergoing radiation at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Her family, deeply moved by support from Sarasota and Manatee communities she served, has launched a fundraiser to cover extensive medical and care costs as they work toward eventually bringing her home to Ohio.
