Safe Children Coalition’s vice president of communications and community engagement, Jacqueline House, MBA, CFRE, recently spoke at Fundraising Day in New York, a prominent one-day conference in the realm of philanthropy. The annual event, presented by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), New York City chapter, attracts more than 1,000 fundraisers each year who are looking to learn during sessions addressing the entirety of fundraising, including current trends and emerging developments.

House co-presented a session titled “How to Plan and Implement a Successful Capital Campaign with a Small Development Team: Case Studies.” The session offered information intended to help attendees at smaller organizations to plan and implement a successful campaign one step at a time, and hear success stories from those who have done it. There were approximately 100 conference participants in attendance.

The event took place as Safe Children Coalition (SCC) is in the midst of a major capital campaign to build a new Youth Shelter for homeless teens in Florida’s Circuit 12 (Sarasota, DeSoto and Manatee counties). The multi-million dollar effort has, to-date, raised over 70% of what SCC leaders expect the facility to cost.

There are more than 2,000 teens who are homeless in the 12th Judicial Circuit at any given time. The new Youth Shelter will be located on Sawyer Road in north Sarasota, sitting on two acres of land. The nearly 9,000-square-foot building will provide safe temporary emergency housing for youths ages 10-17, providing nearly 3,000 safe shelter bed-nights a year and serving up to 200 youth annually for many years to come.

House has been working in the philanthropic realm since 1996, serving in a variety of positions to support membership, marketing and fundraising. In addition to her employment with SCC – where she has worked for just under four years – she serves as a board member for the Charitable Gift Planners of Southwest Florida and AFP, Southwest Florida chapter.
