Sarasota Chorus of the Keys Awards 2026 Music Scholarships

SARASOTA, Fla. (July 2026) — The Sarasota Chorus of the Keys has awarded its prestigious Sheridan E. Brown Memorial Scholarship to two exceptional graduating high school seniors from Manatee and Sarasota counties who will pursue higher education in vocal music and the performing arts.

Established in the late 1970s, the scholarship program has awarded more than $78,000 to over 80 local students, helping talented young musicians continue their musical education. Scholarship awards typically range from $1,000 to $4,000 and are presented to students who demonstrate outstanding musical achievement and plan to pursue a degree that includes vocal music as part of their curriculum.

The 2026 scholarship recipients are Jack Christie who will be attending Florida State University, and River Rogers who will be attending State College of Florida. The students were recognized during a scholarship presentation celebration with members of the award-winning Sarasota Chorus of the Keys.

Jack Christie graduated from Lakewood Ranch High School, where he served as co-president of the school choir and starred as Kristoff in the school's production of Frozen. During his senior year, he also earned top honors at the Golden Herald Awards, recognizing Manatee County's outstanding students for excellence in academics, leadership, and community involvement.

River Rogers graduated from Sarasota High School as a distinguished performing arts student and active member of the school's theatre and choir programs. In 2026, River was selected as Musical Theatre Lead, served as student director, portrayed Professor Harold Hill in The Music Man, and earned Superior ratings in both Duo and Solo Acting at district Thespian festivals, achieving recognition as a Superior Thespian.

"Through this scholarship, we are able to invest in talented young musicians and help ensure that the joy and tradition of vocal music continue with the next generation of performers."

The Sarasota Chorus of the Keys remains committed to encouraging young vocalists throughout the region while promoting the lifelong enjoyment of singing and barbershop harmony.

The Sarasota Chorus of the Keys is a nonprofit, volunteer organization that has entertained Suncoast audiences for nearly 80 years. Established in 1949, the Chorus is a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, an international nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and advancing the uniquely American art form of four-part a cappella harmony.

Made up of men from throughout the Sarasota-Bradenton area, the Chorus performs throughout the year at community events, private functions, senior living communities, and charitable organizations. Signature performances include its Annual Concert, a holiday extravaganza, and Singing Valentines each February 14. The Chorus also competes at Florida District conventions and welcomes new members who enjoy singing, camaraderie, and community service.
